June 8th

bible-facts-The-BibleWe’ve spent a few weeks talking about the Basics of Christianity.  There is nothing more basic, or foundational, than the necessity of Scripture to our faith.  But, can we really trust that the Bible is what it says it is?  There are many reasons that people claim the Bible is untrustworthy…circular arguments, lack of original documentation, and what about all those ‘banned books of the Bible?’  So, is our faith really just an existential leap or are their good reasons to trust this book?

That will be the subject of our service on Sunday morning.  Hope to see you there!  But, if you cannot make it you can check out our bulletin for this week here

BASICS – A New Series & A Birthday Party!

Religion attchaos_squiggles_wideempts to organize the tenants of faith into a reproducible system that one can live by.  It tries to make sense of a collection of facts, stories, and feelings.  But sometimes, in trying to make sense of it all we can lose the object of religion.  Is Christianity a religion?  Is that all it is?  Could you come up with a coherent definition of ‘Christianity’ if someone put you on the spot right now?

Lets try to make sense of what we really believe…why we believe it…and then maybe it’ll have some powerful impact on the way that we live our lives.  Yes, we need structure, codes of conduct, ethics, and morality…but is that all?

Make sure to be at church tomorrow because we are going to celebrate everyone’s birthday!  There are tables set up for each month and a cake for each table.  We’ll begin with a potluck lunch and just have a great afternoon together!

If you cannot make it tomorrow you can grab your bulletin here to keep up with all of the happenings this week.

Missions Sunday (4/27)

This Sunday we are going to get to hear from several missionaries here at Emmanuel who have traveled to Haiti, Mexico, and Columbia.  They will have some great stories of how God is working in other countries and communities but also what God did in their lives as they ministered to others in various forms.

In case you cannot make it to service on Sunday, here is the weeks bulletin to keep up with what’s happening at Emmanuel.

Abide (John 15)

Do you ever struggle to find purpose in life…do you ever feel like you are just ‘going through the motions’ in your work life or in your spiritual life?  Jesus gives a powerful message on abiding in him and the consequence of removing ourselves from him.  In the end, he says, if we abide in him we will find purpose…if not, we will be left wanting.  Most of us can identify with this teaching.  Here is Pastor Joe’s message on what Jesus is calling us to do.  You can also download/view the bulletin notes here.
